J2b-L283 News
I think 2026 is going to be an interesting year for J2b-L283 research. Now that we have a stronger grasp on our Bronze Age origins – as one of the two main populations that led to the ethnogenesis of the Yamnaya, specifically the one that had been living in the steppes north of the Caucasus – I’ve been meaning to create a post or short video explaining something I’ve been thinking about lately, regarding the final leg of the migration of our ancestors to the Danube and the shores of the Adriatic.
I think there are indicators that the two most prolific surviving groups of J2b-L283, “siblings” J2b-Y15058 and J2b-Z638, whose MRCAs are both estimated to have lived around 2200-2300 BCE by FTDNA, originated in different locations and were separated until some of their lines “met up” in the western Balkans.
I’ve been busy with work and hope to create some content about this idea soon.
Previous update was YFull v13.07 in January 2026
I had previously updated HRAS to YFull v13.07 on January 16, 2026 but, due to some issue, wasn’t able to post the update page as usual. So the differences in the tables above reflect new samples/codes introduced between then and April 24, 2026.
